Bocas Panama is an exciting little town, full of excitement and things to do. Bocas Town is in the middle of that activity, being the heart of many of the events that occur in the province. Once on the islands, guests get around either on foot or by water taxi. The majority of the residents of Bocas Town are Afro-Caribbean or Guaymi Indians. They are mixed in with Americans and Europeans, some who are descendants of the banana farmers that came to the area more than one hundred years ago. Some of the events in Bocas Panama include:
• Palo de Mayo – Held on May 1st, this celebration is held in Bocas Town and Bastimentos. The festival is lively, and the highlight of the event is the maypole dance performed by young local girls.
• Dia de la Virgen del Carmen – Taking place in early July, the townspeople make a pilgrimage to a cave called La Gruta, which is located in the middle of Isla Colon. There a mass is held in honor of the Virgen del Carmen.
• Feria del Mar – Known as the Sea Fair in English, this lively fair is a rousing, four-day event. The fair is held in late September on Playa El Ismito, just north of Bocas Town.
• Fundacion de la Provincia de Bocas del Toro – This day honors the founding of the province back in 1904, and it features parades, celebrations and other events.
• Dia de Bastimentos – Bastimentos Day, as it is called in English, is held in late November and celebrated with a parade and drums on the Isla Bastimentos. Although Bocas del Toro is known for the relaxing waters of the Caribbean, there are plenty of exciting activities to keep things tourists entertained. Finding Adventure in Bocas Panama
Although Bocas del Toro is known as a relaxing getaway destination, there is much more to do here than you may think. One of the favorite tourist destinations in Panama, Bocas sits along the Caribbean Sea close to Panama’s border with Costa Rica.

Anyone who enjoys scuba diving and snorkeling will be drawn to the old settlement of Bocas del Drago. Just off the shore of this enchanting beach there are beautiful coral reefs, which are interesting and filled with wildlife.
Five minutes from this beach is the bird sanctuary of Swan Cay, a perfect place to view some of the spectacular birds in the area. Bocas del Toro has fun for everyone in a variety of locations. A trip to this area will undoubtedly create memories to last a lifetime.

Going Batty in the Bat Cave of Bastimentos in Bocas Panama
There is plenty of adventure for tourists who visit Bocas Panama, but the most thrilling adventure for many is the Bat Cave of Bastimentos tour. Located on Bastimentos Island in Bocas del Toro, this cavern is part of a vast array of interconnected caves and a true spine-tingling journey.
Considered by some experts to be part of the largest cluster of bat caves anywhere in Central America, the scene is set for a tremendous journey. The trip to the cave is part of the fun, as the group paddles up a creek that is lined with mangrove trees filled with sloths feeding on their leaves. If the group is quiet enough, it is also possible to see crocodiles patrolling the waters.
Once inside the grotto, visitors are amazed at the sights. Thousands of bats can be seen on the top and sides of the cave; these creatures create a bit of an eerie appearance, but the species found here are harmless.
In addition to the bats, there is a variety of rock formations; each creating a different artistic display to be seen. Finally the path leads through some clear spring water and drains into a large pool. This formation allows the adventurers to dive in for a refreshing swim below the earth’s surface, an event most people will never forget.
